On February 16th, 2018 Marvel fans, Black families, friends, and foes came out to theaters everywhere, in full on African inspired clothes, bags full of snacks, to view Ryan Coogler's Black Panther, easily the best experience in all of Black History Month, and the Black representation. If you know me, you know I rock head wraps, large hoop earrings, and loc'd hair on a daily.
I was here for this.
I watched children act out scenes and watched elders tear up, as the whole world witnessed how beautiful, talented, and powerful Black people truly are.
As an Interior Designer and Oakland native, I was captivated by the fashion, hair, and design of Wakanda. Production Designer Hannah Beachler (#BlackGirlMagic), known for her previous work in Creed, Moonlight, Fruitvale Station (SIP Oscar Grant, love u..) and Beyonce's Lemonade (hey BeyHive) did her thing on this one! Spending days on days traveling South Africa and South Korea inspired the most captivating scenes I had ever seen. The textiles, landscapes and architecture was undeniably my favorite aspects of the movie. I was looking for design inspiration everywhere. Shuri's lab, the murals, the heiroglyphics, and the "afrofuturistic" vibe really set the tone for what we can expect in our own Wakanda, and some serious Interior Design Inspiration to come. #DesignInspo
